Small milestone today. Without going into specifics, the number of pixels sold passed a threshold that made me feel like this is actually going to work.

I went back and looked at the original Million Dollar Homepage stats from 2005. Alex Tew sold his first pixels in August and had raised over $250,000 by October. The trajectory was slow at first, then rapid once the press coverage hit. The snowball effect is real with this kind of project.

The UK map is filling in. London is leading (no surprises there). Scotland is holding its own. The North East is wide open — at £1 per pixel it's the best value advertising on the internet right now.

Thank you to everyone who has bought in so far. You're part of something permanent.

A journalist from a national tech publication got in touch this week asking for an interview. We're going to do a short Q&A over email — nothing confirmed yet so I won't say which outlet — but it's the first proper press coverage if it runs.

The original Million Dollar Homepage was on the BBC, CNN, and in The Guardian within its first few months. I'm not expecting that kind of reach, but even one well-placed article can change the trajectory of something like this.

In the meantime: if you've been sitting on the fence about buying pixels, this is your nudge. The early blocks are always the most interesting ones to own. You're not just buying ad space — you're buying a piece of the story. Any questions before you commit? The FAQ has you covered.

Something I didn't expect: the community angle.

I've had three separate groups of people ask whether they can pool together to buy a larger block — friends, a small business community, even a sports club. The answer is absolutely yes. The pixel block just needs one image and one URL, but there's nothing stopping a group from splitting the cost informally and pointing it at a shared page.

There's something poetic about a local football club in Barnsley owning a square on the Yorkshire section of the UK's permanent internet map. If you're reading this and that sounds like your lot — get in touch and I'll help you figure out the best block size and placement.

This is what I hoped the project would become. Not just ad space. Something people actually care about. See what's still available.

End of the first week. Here's where things stand.

Pixels are selling — slowly, but they're selling. The map is starting to look like something. I can't share exact numbers yet (superstition, mostly), but the progress bar in the navbar is not at zero.

A few things I've learned this week: people want to know the site won't disappear. The number one question in my inbox is "how long will this be online?" The answer is in the FAQ, but I'll say it again here: at least 5 years, guaranteed. The goal is forever. Hosting a static pixel map costs pennies once the revenue is in.

The second most common question is whether this is a scam. It is not. You can read more in the FAQ, but the short answer is: Stripe processes every payment, every pixel is stored in a database, and the map is real.

Week two starts now. Come and own a piece of it.

Someone in a Reddit thread described the Billion Pound Page as "a fever dream cross between Google Maps and a car boot sale". Honestly, I'll take it.

Pixel sales are ticking up steadily. London blocks are selling faster than I expected — there's clearly an appetite from London-based businesses who want to stake their spot on the map. Makes sense. If you're a Shoreditch studio or a City firm, owning a permanent pixel in your actual postcode zone is a nice thing to be able to say.

Still plenty of space available across every region. See the live map and grab your spot.

Watch this space. The journey to £1,000,000 starts with the first hundred.

Quick technical update: I've pushed a fix for a bug where very thin pixel blocks (less than 10px tall) could cause the canvas hit-detection to misfire on mobile. If you tried to click a block and it wasn't responding properly on your phone, that should be sorted now.

Also improved the purchase modal on small screens — the region name and price summary were getting clipped on 375px viewports. Should be clean now across everything down to an iPhone SE.

If you spot any other bugs, please drop a line to okare@billionpoundpage.com. I read everything, even if replies are slow.

Press enquiries are starting to come in. I've had messages from a couple of tech journalists — one from a national, one from a regional outlet covering the startup scene. I'm not going to name them until anything is published, but it's encouraging.

The original Million Dollar Homepage got its big break from a BBC News article. I'm not holding my breath for the same, but the interest is real. If you work in media and want a press kit, email press@billionpoundpage.com.

A few people have been asking about pricing — specifically why the North East is so much cheaper than London. I covered this in the FAQ, but the short version: digital advertising has always mirrored physical real estate. A billboard in Mayfair costs more than one in Middlesbrough. The same logic applies here.

If anything, it's an opportunity. A North East business can own a chunk of the permanent UK internet record for £100 minimum. That's a packet of coffee and a bus fare.

The pricing tiers aren't arbitrary — they're a reflection of the UK economy projected onto a canvas. Buy where your business actually lives.

First pixels sold. A small block in the South East — someone grabbed 100 pixels within about twelve hours of launch. I have no idea who they are yet (the image upload is still pending) but seeing that first green block appear on the map in real time was genuinely one of the best feelings I've had building something.

The Supabase Realtime subscription worked perfectly. The canvas re-drew without a page refresh. All those hours debugging the two-layer canvas setup were worth it.

Also: I told my mum. She asked if it was legal. The answer — for the record — is yes, and you can read exactly how it all works on the FAQ page.

Well, here we are. The site is live. After about three months of evenings and weekends — building the canvas renderer, wiring up Stripe, arguing with Supabase RLS policies at 2am — the Billion Pound Page is online.

I'm genuinely nervous. There's something very exposing about putting a project like this in front of the world. It either catches on or it doesn't. The original Million Dollar Homepage sold out in about a year. I have no idea if this will take a week or a decade.

The concept is simple: a 1,000 × 1,000 pixel UK map. Every pixel costs between £1 and £10 depending on region. You buy a block, upload your image, add your URL, and it lives on the map permanently. No subscriptions. No renewals. Just yours.

If you're reading this on launch day — thank you. Tell someone. That's all I ask.
